Dear Prof. Rom Kostrica,
On behalf of the Spanish Society of ORL-HNS, it is my pleasure to invite Czech Society of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery which you represent to the 1st Congress of the Confederation of European ORL-HNS to be held from the 2nd to the 6th July 2011 in Barcelona.
The Confederation was established during the recent Mannheim Academy meeting in June with the main goal of combining the European forces of EUFOS, representing the National societies, and the European Academy (EAORL-HNS), representing the European subspecialty societies in ORL-HNS. Both bodies will continue to exist organizing a scientific Confederation event every two years, organized either by EUFOS (2011) or by the Academy (2013) in collaboration with each other and the UEMS ENT section. The Barcelona congress follows the very successful Vienna meeting with a similar structure.
You can see the first announcement, displaying the reduced fees for young colleagues under 35 and for colleagues coming from developing countries (according to the WHO classification). Also, accompanying persons have the same registration fee throughout the entire registration period. We would like to ask you to distribute the announcement among your members. The deadline for abstract submission (oral presentation, poster, video, instruction course) is the 15th October 2010.
In order to start as soon as possible with the difficult task of structuring the scientific programme we would like to ask you to forward a list of those outstanding members of your society who are willing to participate in either round tables and / or workshops, including their areas of interest and e-mails. May I kindly ask you to submit your proposals before July 1, 2010.
In a meeting scheduled for October 2010 with the representatives of the National and the International scientific committees we will prepare the final scientific programme. Following this meeting we will contact those colleagues that have finally been included in the programme.
In order to keep a balance of proposals coming from the National ENT societies and the European subspecialty societies we will try to arrange a 50:50 composition of round tables and workshops, trying to include at least one young colleague. Here, one of the main selection criteria will be his / her scientific output. Included will also be keynote lectures, state of art lectures, free paper sessions, videos, and a poster exhibition.
Also, in an additional attempt to promote young colleagues internationally, the three European journals (European Archives of ORL, Rhinology and Acta ORL) have kindly accepted to select the best manuscripts submitted for publication until the above mentioned deadline. The selected papers will be given a 15 minute presentation as “keynote lectures”. When sending the manuscript, a letter to the editor should mention that the paper has also been submitted for consideration as a keynote lecture for Barcelona 2011. When submitting the abstract for the congress, the ”keynote lecture” box and the chosen european journal have to be clicked respectively.
In order to speed up the connection with your Society we would like to ask you to name one contact person with whom the congress organization may contact at any time and who will be able to make decisions on the spot concerning the scientific programme on your Society’s behalf. This person could be yourself or any other named to represent your Society. Please send also contact details (preferably e-mail).
